[qmtest] PATCH: Enhance DejaGNU result reader

I am using QMTest with Python 2.2.  I have no particular need to 
upgrade to the latest patch level of QMTest for new features since my use 
of qmtest is hidden from users under a script: My users never see QMTest. 
I would upgrade for bug fixes.

There seem to be copies of Python 2.3.4 and 2.4 on my cluster.  If Python 
has maintained full backward compatibility then I could upgrade to a newer 
version of Python as needed.
