[patch] install benchmark sources

As attached.  Subsequent patches will be needed to

    1) install the HPEC Benchmark sources
    2) install benchmark executables
    3) clean up the standalone makefile
    4) update tutorial and quickstart documents

Plus other revisions for the install directory layout as discussed.  
I'll try to make all these changes in small sensible pieces to make it 
easier to review.
