Er... well.  It was supposed to refer to the maximum points the 
underlying 'libfft' could handle.  That didn't turn out to be true (at 
least not in our circumstances with ALF), so the max is really 4K points.

I suppose renaming is an option.  :P


More seriously, Stefan already pointed out a few changes that make this 
backend more consistent with others.  I think this is a good idea and 
I'll be happy to take further suggestions re: naming etc...
