Ooh, nastier problem: a mistyped resource name isn't checked until the
test run, and even there, it only shows up in qmtest full, not in the
gui (the gui points only that there's an "issue" with the name, it
takes "qmtest run -f full" to actually see 
    qmtest.exception:
      qm.test.database.NoSuchResourceError: There is no resource with the
      resource ID "mcprod".

and
--- RESOURCES THAT DID NOT PASS ----------------------------------------------

  Setup mcprod                                  : ERROR   
    Resource is missing from the database.

This is tempting me to roll back to the old interface :-)
