[pooma-dev] Particles and NewField

Hi Scott,

No, I have not tackled that yet. I did study
the issues involved and sent a note around on
this list a few weeks ago about what I thought
was needed. I just need a few solid chunks of
several hours each to sit and do the work. I
should have time for it after June 1st. (If it
is extremely pressing to do this sooner, I can
try, but life will be better after my class and
the Caltech ASCI research review are over.)

The one thing I could use from the NewFields
(I think I mentioned this in my earlier note)
is a simple interface for determining if a
Field is cell or vert centered along a given
dimension. This is encoded in the offset values,
but a simple query function would be helpful.

The work to be done is essentially (a) modifying
items used by Particles to eliminate the centering
or geometry template parameter, and (b) rewriting
the particle/field interpolator code to handle
centering at run-time. Most Particles code will
not change at all.

Julian C.
