Speeding Pooma Code on a Branch?

	Soon some Pooma developers will turn to reducing Pooma's
running time.  Should we modify the code on a separate branch, e.g.,
the running_time branch, so that the Blanca people's use of the
mainline is not affected?

	Hopefully next week, the newfield_revision branch will be
merged into whichever branch we choose.
